For optimizing the site first you should have a good basic knowledge of your site. You must know what your site is all about, the products or services offered and lot more. Then you have to decide on the primary Keywords for which you have to optimize your site. You should also have the complete list of all the files in your file. Also take care that the file names should be keyword oriented and not junk stuffs. Then you should find out the market and competitions for your keywords.
